I first started seeing the hints of rust bubbling under the paint on my rocker panels last summer. Already there are multiple holes. Body shop quoted me a grand to replace them. Gonna have to take the plunge this summer, this is really really bad.
It amazingly doesn’t look that bad just walking past.

Clearly next time you should buy a Cybertruck, show me a DeLorean with rocker panels like that...

I like truck s that I can actually ... Use.

It’s not clear to me how useless the Cybertruck is (especially if you aren’t doing long-distance towing). I’m not sold on the looks, but if they deliver on the promised specs, it seems like it should be as good at most truck stuff as your standard full-sized extended cab pickup.

Try reaching over the side of the truck, into the front of the bed. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Not exactly a trivial feat on conventional modern pickups either, and most of the stuff you could easily grab from the side would probably be better stored in one of the other storage compartments anyway.

How about when I'm ratcheting down the straps for my scooters? Something I do multiple times a year.

And God forbid you've got a ladder rack if you're under 6'6

Would these work? Kind of a Band-Aid, but I’m all about laziness.

But think about how much easier it will be to load those scooters with a built-in ramp!

Nice clean truck otherwise. $1000 isn’t terrible.

They used to say that Land Rovers wouldn’t rust because they were made from aluminium...and now the Cybertruck and its fans are playing the same stupid card.

No doubt the newer trucks are not too friendly to loading and unloading over the sides. No wonder they’ve resorted to all sorts of tailgate steps BS so people can actually get into the beds.
I truly love my lowered Dakota. It is super friendly to loading and unloading from all sides and the tailgate is nice and low to the ground as well. I don’t know how people deal with the newer style trucks and the high belt line.

They would make it look better, but I'm not going to get it fixed for vanity. I haul my kids in this, and I want all the metal I can get there, in case of a crash.

But how do I secured them once they're in? You really can't.

That's one of the things I love about my truck. Stock height is perfectly usable.

I mean there are tie down points in the bed. If you are moving one scooter, that seems really easy since you can just walk up in the bed and tie it down . If you are moving like three at a time, maybe that becomes a lot harder.

Thanks. I agree, $1000 isn't too bad. The truck is worth it. We love it, and I hope to keep it long enough that I can teach my daughters how to drive in it.

Typically Iove two at a time. I assure you, if it’s possible to tie two scooters down in this ... And I’m not convinced it is ... It will be a monumental pain in the ass.

The one thing I’ll give the Cybertruck is that U-Haul truck style built-in ramp with the crouching suspension . Give it tie down points and it seems like it would be a lovely way to load motorcycles and scoots.
But outside of that, it’s like a far worse Ridgeline. Have you seen the video of Musk driving it down the highway? Holy crap, I think the bedsides sit higher than any truck on the market!

Seems like once rust gets to a certain point it accelerates exponentially.
Just learned that my first and second gen smarts’ crash bars aren’t really rust protected, just like the rear subframes . Blegh...

As I understand, the rocker s on these trucks rust from the inside out. Once it pops through, there ain’t much left!

You'd have to be as tall and have arms as long as Shaq in order to reach over the bedside and tie anything down up front. As cool as the built in ramp and squaring suspension are, they're completely negated by the lack of access to the front of the bed.
